Summer Break Officially Starts
The kids are out of school, and summer is on.
There’s a shift that happens when school ends — the pace changes, the mornings get looser, and everything feels a little more open. I’m all for it. The kids have been ready for a break, and honestly so have I.
We’re already making the most of it.
First Weekend at the Beach
We kicked things off right — first weekend of summer, and we were at the beach.
It was exactly what it needed to be. Good weather, the kids running into the water, time to just decompress and be present. After a busy spring, that kind of reset hits different.
Already looking forward to going back.
I Shipped Square Sweep
In between everything else, I managed to get another app across the finish line: Square Sweep.
It’s a clean, simple game — sweep the board, clear the squares. The kind of thing you pick up for five minutes and somehow play for thirty.
Shipping is always the hard part. Getting it live, tested, and in the store takes more than the idea itself. But it’s out, and it feels good to have another one done.
Updated the Blog with Claude
This site got a real UX refresh this week too.
I’ve been doing more of my development work alongside Claude — using it as a hands-on collaborator, not just for quick questions. We went through the blog top to bottom: new color scheme, redesigned post cards on the writing page, hero image thumbnails on the homepage, a back link on every post, read time estimates, a cleaner footer. Things that were functional but a little rough.
It took one session to get through all of it. That still feels like a superpower.
Serving at Church Every Sunday Now
One change I’ve been happy about: I’m now serving at church every Sunday as a greeter — with two different groups.
It used to be every other week, which was good, but showing up consistently is better. There’s something about being there regularly, knowing the people, getting into a real rhythm. Serving feels less like a task and more like something I want to do.
Grateful to be part of both teams.
Go-Live Date: June 22
A big project at work finally has a go-live date: June 22.
This one has been a long time coming. A lot of planning, a lot of moving pieces, a lot of people working together to make it happen. Having a date locked in changes the energy. The finish line is real now.
Still a few weeks of work ahead, but the direction is clear. Ready to see it ship.
Looking Ahead: Birthday at the Beach
And capping off the month — I’ve got a birthday beach trip planned for June 26.
I can’t think of a better way to mark the day. The beach is already proving to be a theme this summer, and I’m not complaining.
A good stretch ahead: a go-live, a birthday, and hopefully more time in the water with the family.
June is shaping up well.
